Proposed sale of Meadows Park Community Center moves to Colorado Springs City Council

City of Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) Advisory Board is supporting a potential sale of the former Meadows Park Community Center.

According to PRCS, the sale would keep the site serving the community for the next 25 years. They say the proposed sale would include a deed restriction that would require the use of the site in the future to benefit the surrounding community and neighborhood.

The city says that under the proposal, a local commercial real estate company, CRE Holdings, will buy the property and says the plan to prioritize childcare for working families, youth programming and aftercare partnerships. They also say they want more access for lower-income households.

The city says future tenants or programs haven't been fully finalized.

The city says the proposed sale comes after almost a year of work with neighbors to find a future for the center after it closed in October of 2025. They say community feedback asked for more access to services and community safety, among other things.

The city said it was part of the city-formed Meadows Park Solutions Team, which included residents and local leaders. It then led to a competitive request for proposals in April, which the city says it received three of, before selecting CRE Holdings.

“The community helped shape what comes next for this property, and that input has stayed at the center of this process,” Kim King, Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services said in a press release. “The goal has been to find a sustainable future for the site that continues to provide meaningful benefit to Stratton Meadows. The Advisory Board’s recommendation moves that work forward for City Council’s consideration.”

The proposal will now go to the Colorado Springs City Council, which PRCS says has the final authority to approve a property transfer. They are slated to discuss the sale at their October 12 work session.
