UCCS chancellor to retire, will step down in June 2027

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) says its chancellor, Jennifer Sobanet, will retire in 2027.

According to officials, she first stepped into the role as interim chancellor in July of 2023 before moving into the role full time in December of that year.

The university cites Sobanet's initiatives for student success and community partnerships as major achievements of her tenure.

"It has been my great honor to serve UCCS and the CU System alongside incredible faculty and staff," Sobanet said in a press release. "I'm committed to continuing our important work for the benefit of students and our communi8ty in my remaining time at UCCS."

Before coming to UCCS, Sobanet worked as the Executive Vice Chancellor of Administration and Strategy, and Chief Financial Officer at the University of Colorado Denver, according to officials. She also worked at the Colorado Department of Higher Education, Front Range Community College and Colorado Community College system.

“Chancellor Sobanet’s leadership and her continued efforts to forge closer ties between the campus and the community build on the successful origins of the campus,” CU Board of Regents Chair Ken Montera said in a press release. “I know we will all miss her contributions when she leaves in the Spring, but the campus is better for all that she has accomplished in her time there.”

UCCS says Sobanet will retire at the end of her contract in June next year.
