Hiker rescued from Pikes Peak summit after recent storms

El Paso County Search and Rescue

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- El Paso County Search and Rescue reported responding to a hiker stranded at the summit of Pikes Peak on Oct. 1.

Officials say the recent storms have brought winter conditions to the mountain, making summit access difficult.

Rescue crews say that with the help of the Pikes Peak-America's Mountain, they were able to access the area and help the hiker.

With winter conditions settling in, officials are reminding hikers to prepare for changing weather and understand their limits, especially when hiking above treeline.

They encourage hikers to check the weather before heading out, pack appropriate gear and turn around if conditions become unfavorable.

Rescue crews warn that winter conditions in the mountains can be unforgiving, and even small mistakes can quickly become dangerous.
