Colorado Springs offers accessible guided trackchair hikes at six trail locations

City of Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The City of Colorado Springs says it is offering several chances for guided trackchair hikes in October.

The city's trackchairs are all-terrain and motorized so those with mobility impairments can experience the trails in the city that may not be accessible with a traditional wheelchair, according to officials.

For the first time, those who are interested can hike at Stratton Open Space and Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site, adding to the four already available trackchair hike locations.

The city is hosting both morning and afternoon sessions at the six locations throughout the month of October. The morning sessions are offered from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the afternoon sessions run from noon to 3 p.m. Available times vary based on date and location.

The city says participating is free, but advanced registration is required for the events. Those who are interested can sign up on the city's website.

The guided trackchair hikes will be available at the following locations and dates:

  • Ute Valley Park: Through October 4
  • Stratton Open Space: October 7-9
  • Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site: October 10-11
  • Blodgett Open Space: October 14-18
  • Red Rock Canyon Open Space: October 21-25
  • Bluestem Prairie Open Space: October 28-31
