City of Fountain clears dead trees at Adams Open Space to reduce wildfire risk

City of Fountain

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- The City of Fountain says it spent Monday working on mitigation projects for two of its open spaces to lower the danger from wildfires.

The city says it worked with the Fountain Fire Department, Fountain Utilities and Fountain Parks and Recreation at the Adams Open Space on Monday. The nearly 50-acre property was revamped as part of an effort to mitigate the risks that may come from wildfires, according to the city.

Wildland firefighters used chainsaws to take down dead trees and cut them into smaller sections that could be moved. The city says other crews worked to clear the debris then grind it into mulch.

The city says the plan is to go back to the open space on Wednesday to continue the work, if the weather is good. They say Adams Open Space is one of several that gets regular work like this to help thin out dead vegetation.
