Woman hit by car following Bruno Mars concert, searching for answers from officials

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- In an exclusive interview, KRDO13 spoke with a woman who says she was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot after leaving the Bruno Mars concert at Falcon Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Michelle Pitts says she suffered whiplash, torn ligaments, a pulled pelvis, hairline rib fractures and road rash across her body after being swept beneath the vehicle. Pitts says the vehicle narrowly missed hitting her daughter and her daughter's friend.

"Scariest thing I've ever been through, it was. It was scary being under somebody's car," Pitts said.

We previously reported that major traffic gridlock followed the performances, leaving some concertgoers stuck in parking lots for hours.

Pitts and her daughter said people were running around trying to find where they had parked, adding that cars were weaving and cutting through the lot trying to get around traffic.

“Everybody's honking their horns, going in certain different directions. Nobody can see where they're going,” said Lauryn Pitts, Michelle's daughter.

After having trouble finding their own car, Pitts said they took a break and sat down on a grassy slope.

Just a few minutes later, she said a car was attempting to cut out of line and ran her over.

KRDO13 spoke with several witnesses, who all shared similar accounts.

Pitts told KRDO13 no one has reached out to her following the crash, and she has yet to receive any incident report.

She's now working to track down information about what happened that night for insurance and medical purposes, with no luck yet.

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) provided KRDO13 with the following statement:

“We are aware of an incident. Legacy EMS (844-886-3339) provided dedicated on-site ambulance and medical services for the event. They maintain detailed reports regarding Emergency Medical Services support to include the incident at the event.”

Legacy EMS told KRDO13 they responded quickly and went above and beyond to provide care for Pitts.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) provided KRDO13 with the following statement:

“On Sunday, September 27, 2026, CSPD officers were working extra duty at the United States Air Force Academy to assist U.S. Air Force security forces (USAFSF) with the Bruno Mars concert. Around 11:40 PM, CSPD was notified in the on-site incident command center by parking personnel that someone may have been hit by a car in parking lot 2, near the porta-potties, and was on the ground. USAFSF and CSPD officers responded to parking lot 2. CSPD officers located a female on the ground who was already in contact with medical personnel and USAFSF. The female had reported that she had fallen in the parking lot while getting to her car. CSPD officers and USAFSF continued searching the area for anyone who may have been hit by a car, but were unable to locate anyone.” – Ira Cronin, Public Relations Manager, CSPD
