COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man was arrested Sunday after allegedly assaulting a Colorado Springs police officer during an altercation while officers were responding to reports of erratic behavior.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers responded to the 900 block of Sahwatch Street around 12:54 p.m. on Sept. 27 after receiving reports of a man lying in the street, behaving erratically and harassing people.

Police later identified the suspect as Domenick Biondo.

Detectives used a drone to locate the man, who was running north in the 600 block of Sahwatch Street, according to CSPD.

When officers contacted the man, police say he became combative and resisted attempts to detain him. During the altercation, he allegedly attempted to assault one officer and injured another.

Medical personnel transported the man to a nearby hospital for treatment after he told officers he had taken DMT, a psychedelic drug.

The man was arrested on multiple charges, including assault on a peace officer.

The injured officer was also taken to a local hospital, where they were treated and released.
