Former Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy arrested after allegedly shooting at police building, vehicles

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A deputy who had resigned from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is being accused of targeting BCSO and another law enforcement agency overnight, according to our Denver news partners.

BCSO reports a man called 911 after midnight on Monday saying he was experiencing anxiety. The man called back a few minutes later, and while he was being transferred to another department, he allegedly made threats towards BCSO facilities, including the jail and headquarters, according to BCSO.

BCSO says they were able to determine the calls came from Tyler Boyd Reilly, a former BCSO deputy who had worked in the jail and patrol divisions before resigning. BCSO says Reilly resigned instead of being terminated for cause.

BCSO says that around 12:40 a.m., law enforcement data showed Reilly's vehicle was going northbound on State Highway 287 from Dillon Road in Boulder County. BCSO says due to the threats, they placed deputies at several campuses.

Around 1 a.m., a BCSO sergeant saw Reilly at the front door of BCSO headquarters armed with an AR-15-style rifle. BCSO says he then fired multiple rounds at the front of the building. BCSO says Reilly did not gain entry, and deputies confronted him outside the headquarters. He was taken into custody without incident.

BCSO says that as the investigation continued, officials learned Reilly allegedly stopped at the Broomfield Police Department and fired multiple rounds at police vehicles there.

9News reports Reilly was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges, including attempted burglary, menacing, trespass, criminal mischief, prohibited use of weapons and assault on a peace officer.
