Woman arrested for attempted murder for allegedly stabbing neighbor after borrowing their phone

UPDATE: This article has been updated to reflect arrest records obtained by KRDO13.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) says it has arrested a woman after she allegedly stabbed her neighbor multiple times.

PPD says officers were sent to the 900 block of West Abriendo Avenue around 4:10 a.m. on September 25 for a stabbing. PPD says that prior to officers arriving, the Pueblo Fire Department responded to a pulled fire alarm. That is when officials say they found a male victim with multiple stab wounds.

PPD arrived on the scene and said they were informed that the victim was stabbed by a nearby neighbor. PPD says they learned that 45-year-old Sandra Valles had borrowed a phone from her neighbor.

According to arrest records, the neighbor said he didn’t have one, so he went to his dad’s house to borrow his cellphone.

The neighbor and his dad went back to the apartment together and gave Valles the phone, according to arrest records. Records say they told police they tried to get the phone back about five minutes later.

Following a short dispute about the phone's PIN number, the two told police that Valles exited her apartment and attacked the dad with a kitchen knife, stabbing him in the arm.

The victim and family member then activated the fire alarm as a call for help, according to officials.

According to arrest records, Valles told police she had bought the phone from them two hours before the incident occurred and was defending herself after the two men tried to break into her apartment.

Officers say they were able to take Valles into custody without incident. Valles also told police, in part, that she wished she had killed them. The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and underwent surgery.

PPD says Valles was transported to a local hospital, then taken to the Pueblo County Detention Center. She is now facing charges of theft and attempted first-degree murder.
