North boat ramp at Lake Pueblo State Park will close for marina construction

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) announced it will close the north boat ramp at Lake Pueblo State Park starting Oct. 31 for construction.

CPW says that in 2024, The O'Neil Group signed a contract to rebuild the North Marina and has been working around ongoing recreation, but now needs full access to the marina to make room for cranes, dock components, and other equipment.

According to CPW, starting at 6 p.m. at the end of October, it will direct boaters to the South Boat Ramp for access to the reservoir.

“We understand that this may be an inconvenience for some boaters who prefer to access the reservoir from the North Boat Ramp,” said Joe Stadterman, Lake Pueblo State Park manager. “Closing this ramp ensures the safest possible environment for crews to rebuild the marina.”

Officials say the O'Neil Group has installed new wave breaks this summer and plans to demolish old docks this winter. The group also plans to add new docks, an accessible ramp and main walkway, and new electrical service.

CPW says the construction phase is expected to continue into April. Officials say the rebuilt marina, according to contractors' 2025 plans, will include 715 slips for boats up to 65 feet long, a new store with a restaurant, laundry facilities, more fuel capacity, and additional pump-out stations.

According to CPW, all boating activity this winter will move to the South Boat Ramp, which opens daily from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., CPW says boaters will depart through the South Boat Ramp’s automatic exit gate.

Officials confirm that the park's north-side group picnic areas and overflow parking lot south of the North Boat Ramp will remain open; however, north-side campgrounds will be closed for the season.

Marina customers can call (719) 547-3880 with questions, says CPW.
