Colorado Springs firefighters deploy to assist with Tropical Storm Nolo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) says it is sending several of its members out to assist with potential search and recovery efforts related to Tropical Storm Nolo.

According to CSFD and the Colorado Urban Search and Rescue Task Force One, five members of CSFD will be activated to assist with the storm. Officials say Tropical Storm Nolo could strengthen into a hurricane and is expected to make landfall on Hawaii's Big Island as early as Friday.

The task force says it has a total of 16 members of its team being deployed. They say they are on an early morning flight Friday from Denver to support in search and rescue operations, if needed.

Officials say the task force members will start their work on Thursday with gear and medical checks before flying out.
