Colorado baby running for ‘Baby of the Year’ after mom battles Hodgkin’s lymphoma

PEYTON, Colo. (KRDO) -- Georgia is much more than Cassie Rogers' fourth child, but a symbol of hope and inspiration from what her mother had been through.

Rogers and her husband were trying for their fourth child when she felt a lump on her neck that happened to be Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer that attacks the lymphatic system.

"They told us it was very likely through chemotherapy that it is very unlikely that you will be able to have children," Rogers said.

A year after treatment ended, Rogers decided to still try, but it resulted in a miscarriage after ten months.

Then, Rogers became pregnant again, but this time it was a different result.

"When I got pregnant again, I was very nervous again of course and then I found out we were going to have a baby and that she was healthy," Rogers said.

Relief had finally arrived for everything Rogers had gone through as a mother.

"We were overjoyed and just could not thank the Lord enough for the miracle that we were seeing and the miracle she is," Rogers said.

With baby Georgia now six months old, Rogers looked to share Georgia's story and put her in Colossal's Baby of the Year competition. It's a nationwide competition that raises funds for the non-profit Baby2Baby. They help provide essentials for babies in foster care, domestic shelters and other similar situations.

"It is amazing hearing the stories from others that are in the competition as well of miracle babies. There is hope," Rogers said. "For us, winning this competition would be the icing on the cake. She brings so much joy and happiness, and I want to share that with others."

Georgia's family is ecstatic about the competition coming up. Voting ends on November 5th and you can vote for Georgia on the Baby of the Year website. If Georgia wins this round, she will move onto the national competition.
