City Council approves fuel rate decrease to electric fuel rates for Colorado Springs Utilities

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) announced today that the Colorado Springs City Council approved a fuel rate decrease to electric fuel rates.

CSU says this decrease will lower monthly bills for its customers by $1.54. CSU says the decrease will take place on October 1.

CSU says it has saved around $7 million through June since joining the Southwest Power Pool in April. According to officials, the Southwest Power Pool is an organization that "helps coordinate the flow of electricity across a large multi-state region." CSU says its participation in this organization helps create more access to energy resources and other related items.

CSU says this is just a change to the fuel rates, which reflect changes in fuel costs and can increase and decrease throughout the year. Base rates remain unchanged; according to CSU, those are usually updated once a year and help fund maintenance, infrastructure investments, customer programs and other utility related operations.
