Colorado Springs woman accused of killing husband, hiding body inside home for months

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 62-year-old woman is facing murder and tampering charges after police say her husband was found dead inside their Colorado Springs home.

The investigation began Saturday after Sheldon Wilson and her daughter, Jamie Kishbaugh, walked into the Police Operations Center and reported that Wilson's husband, Alan Groom, was dead inside her home, according to court records.

KRDO13 obtained an arrest affidavit detailing the investigation.

Wilson told police that Groom died in March while she was at work. She allegedly said she returned home to find him dead on the bed, in the same position he had been sleeping in when she left for work.

The affidavit says Wilson told police, "You're going to find out a lot more real soon; it's bad." She also allegedly said, "There's no words for what you're fixing to find out. I'm guilty of whatever the f**k."

According to court records, Wilson told her daughter Jamie Kishbaugh about Groom's death on Sept. 19, and Jamie drove her to the police department.

Officers then responded to the home and found Groom's remains inside two black plastic totes with red lids, according to the affidavit.

Police said they observed decomposing flesh and what appeared to be a human leg inside a trash bag in one tote. A second tote contained a tightly packed black trash bag wrapped in silver duct tape, according to the affidavit.

Officers also found a small single mattress with dark staining that appeared to be biological matter and blood behind a privacy fence in the backyard.

Wilson's daughter, Jessica Wilson, and her husband lived in the neighboring residence. Jessica told police that her mother had previously said Groom had left the state to visit family in the middle of the night.

On Sept. 18, Jessica allegedly received a series of texts from her mother attempting to give away money. According to the affidavit, Wilson told Jessica that she had "messed up very badly" and would go to jail for a long time.

Jessica told police her mother then disclosed that Groom had died inside the home and that his body had been hidden in an upstairs bedroom.

Court records indicate that 18 calls for service had been made to the residence since December 2024. Several of those calls allegedly involved reports that Wilson was abusing Groom, according to the affidavit.

On Dec. 17, a family member reported receiving more than 40 calls from Wilson in which she allegedly expressed that she wanted to kill Groom, according to court records.

That same family member contacted police again on Sept. 17 and reported that Wilson had a history of hurting Groom and had been making excuses for why they could not call him.

CSPD officers responded to the home that day. Wilson allegedly told officers that Groom had started outpatient hospice care and would return home every few days.

According to the affidavit, when Wilson was questioned by detectives, she said she had a drinking problem and a history of hurting Groom while intoxicated. She also told police she had been drinking the night before Groom was found unresponsive.

Wilson said that on the morning of March 17, she found Groom unresponsive in bed. According to police, she said she thought to herself, "What did I do?" She said she looked for bruises on Groom but did not find any.

Wilson allegedly told detectives that she did not want her daughters to find out she had been hurting Groom. She said she covered him with a blanket and went to work.

Groom's body remained in the living room for about a week, according to court records.

Wilson later told police that, roughly two to three months after Groom's death, she dismembered his body and concealed the remains inside the home.

Police said Wilson told detectives she had a plan to dispose of Groom's body, but that plan never came to fruition.

When CSPD officers responded to the home on Sept. 17, Wilson allegedly decided she would not be able to dispose of the remains and wanted to tell her daughters that Groom had been dead and hidden inside the home since March.

According to court records, as officers escorted Wilson to a holding cell after telling her she was being arrested, she allegedly said she would face additional charges because she had been collecting Groom's Social Security checks for the past six months.

She then allegedly asked officers, "Can I just plea guilty, how does that work?"

According to records, she had been charged with murder in the second degree, tampering with a deceased human body, and tampering with physical evidence.
