Colorado sees an unusually late start to mountain snow this year

LEADVILLE, Colo. (KRDO) -- The first measurable amount of snow was spotted on Massive Peak, according to our Denver news partners.

Massive Peak is 14,427 feet high, making it the second-highest point in Colorado, behind Mt Albert. 9News reported that the snow was spotted Tuesday morning and appeared to fall as low as 13,500 feet in elevation.

This first snow on Colorado's 14ers marks an unseasonably late start to winter. An average winter for Colorado will have the first 14er snow around late August.
