$885,000 funding request fails for Leonard da Vinci Museum in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A request to fund the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of North America with $885,000 in taxpayer money was rejected by the Pueblo City Council on Monday.

The decision came after some residents questioned why the city would spend so much money amid a budget crunch.

The request failed by a 5-2 vote, with only council members Mark Liff and Brett Boston in support of the ordinance.

If it had passed, the funding would have gone to upgrades like an indoor cafe, a remodel to create an additional exhibit, signage for the building and construction of more permanent exhibits. The museum -- which opened to the public in June -- features immersive exhibits and educational experiences showcasing the life and works of Leonardo da Vinci.
