Mountain lion caught in tree in Westminster neighborhood, relocated by CPW

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (KRDO) -- A mountain lion that was spotted in a tree in Westminster has been relocated, according to officials.

The Westminster Police Department (WPD) says it was notified of a mountain lion in a tree on Eaton Street between 112th and 113th Avenues around 10:20 a.m. An hour later, WPD said Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) had tranquilized the mountain lion and was going to be relocated.

WPD says the road was closed while CPW responded to the incident.

Our Denver news partners report the mountain lion is going to be moved to an area in the mountains west of Castle Rock. 9News spoke to a member of CPW, who said the mountain lion was a juvenile male, around 60 to 70 pounds, that they suspect to have been travelling down a corridor to Standley Lake for around a week.

CPW told 9News it's common for mountain lions around this age to leave their mothers and start to find their own homes, and they couldn't tie this case of the mountain lion being in the neighborhood to drought conditions.
