Two teenagers killed after head-on crash in Garfield County

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Two teenagers are dead after a head-on crash on Interstate 70 near Rifle, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

Officials say on Sunday around 2:30 a.m., CSP responded to a head-on crash involving three cars on the westbound lanes of I-70, just east of Rifle. According to CSP, an initial investigation shows a Subaru driven by a 17-year-old male was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes. A semi hauling a trailer was traveling in the westbound lanes, along with a GMC driven by an 18-year-old female were both driving westbound in westbound lanes.

CSP says the Subaru hit the GMC head-on, and the GMC then hit the trailer that was being hauled by the semi. The drivers of the Subaru and GMC were pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The Garfield County Coroner's Office released the names of the two victims on Monday. The 17-year-old male driving the Subaru was identified as Kyle McKinney. The 18-year-old female driving the GMC was identified as Reese Allen.

CSP says its Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the crash, and the cause remains ongoing.
