Cheyenne Mountain Zoo celebrates 100 years with a trifecta of events, including opening of new Giraffe Center

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (CMZoo) has several things coming up next week with discounts, grand openings and celebrations.

September 14-20 kicks off half-price for all military members and immediate family during any daytime zoo admission.

Those families are also in for a treat with a Centennial Celebration and the grand opening of the Giraffe Center on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The event starts at 9:30 a.m.

Military appreciation week at the zoo is a great way for families who live on the several bases in the Colorado Springs area to enjoy some time.

The Centennial Celebration at the CMZoo will bring live music, artists, vintage cars and more family friendly events through Sunday.

The Giraffe Center offers a great opportunity to get up close and personal feeding the giraffes, for a small fee. The grand opening of the event will feature a 12,000-square-foot barn and an appearance from Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade.

The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Advanced timed tickets for on-site parking are required but limited, while ride-share tickets will always be available.
