Denver Museum of Nature and Science volunteer discovered T. rex tracks in North Dakota

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Denver Museum of Nature and Science says its scientists have helped discover the first-ever trackway made by an adult Tyrannosaurus rex.

According to the museum, the trackway is around 23 feet long and has four three-toed footprints. The discovery was made by a museum volunteer in the Hell Creek Formation in southwestern North Dakota.

Officials say each footprint is around three feet long. Researchers can estimate they were made over 66 million years ago. The museum says although isolated footprints have been found in the past by a T. rex, this is the first time a sequence of tracks has been found.

The footprints should be at the museum this fall, according to officials.
