Briargate family left on edge after BB pellet strikes nursery window
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A family is on edge and searching for answers after discovering a BB pellet struck the window of their nursery at an apartment complex in the Briargate area.
It was last Thursday at La Bella Vita Apartments Homes near North Powers Boulevard and Briargate Parkway when Alec McGill went to adjust the blinds in his 9-month-old son's nursery.
That's when he discovered the gash near the bottom of the window, and a BB pellet lodged between the glass. The Magill family is now left wondering what could’ve happened if the BB pellet had gone through the second layer of glass.
“The angle that it’s going at was going straight for my baby’s crib," said mom Tiana Magill.
Ever since, the parents have been laying their infant son down with his head facing away from the window. They’ve also been blocking the window with a hard-backed book out of caution.
“It just makes me not feel safe at night, so I’m constantly checking. We did modify how we put our son to bed and everything,” Magill said.
She took to social media to caution other moms about where they place their kid’s bed — something she never thought she’d have to worry about.
“Shooting at windows isn’t just breaking glass. In my situation, it could have hit my 9-month-old son," Magill said. "It could have ruined our lives forever.”
The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said this is an active investigation, and there have not been any similar incidents in the area in the past 3 months.
CSPD added that "incidents like this are challenging without additional evidence (video), suspect information, or information/tips provided by community members."
Anyone with information or who was a witness to this incident is asked to call CSPD or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line.
According to the Colorado Springs City Code, it is unlawful for any person to wrongfully fire or discharge any cannon, gun, pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, air gun, BB gun, gas-operated gun, spring gun, or firearm within the City.
