Pueblo County partners with CDOT to boost seat belt usage with ‘Every Click Counts’ campaign

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo County partnered with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) on new messaging designed to promote more seat belt usage in the county.

According to officials, CDOT, along with community advocates, came together to highlight ongoing efforts to improve seat belt usage in the county. CDOT says Pueblo County has some of the lowest rankings in the annual Colorado Statewide Seat Belt Study.

Officials say those low rankings sparked the formation of the "Every Click Counts" coalition last fall. They say the local Pueblo coalition is composed of county, municipal, education, transportation and business sector representatives. CDOT says the coalition meets regularly to coordinate events to promote seat belt usage.

As part of the campaign, Pueblo Mayor Heather Graham designated September 9, 2026, as "Pueblo Seat Belt Awareness Day" through a formal proclamation.

So far, members of the "Every Click Counts" coalition say they have organized six community events and helped make resources for more organizations. CDOT says there are also new public displays related towards seat belt safety at several locations in Pueblo including CSU Pueblo, the zoo, Dutch Clark Stadium, the county courthouse and American Driving Academy.

CDOT says they are especially encouraging kids and young people to buckle up, noting that eight of the 12 passenger vehicle fatalities in the county so far in 2026 were not wearing seat belts.

More information on seat belt safety is available on CDOT's website.
