Crews able to contain ‘Labor Day’ fire in Bent County to 50 acres

BENT COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Crews in Bent County have been able to completely contain a fire that burned 50 acres that started Monday.

According to the Las Animas/Bent County Fire Protection District, crews were called to a fire near Highway 194 and County Road 7 late Monday night. On Tuesday morning, officials said crews were still working on the fire and a heat detection plane was on its way to the area to help with acreage and hot spots.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, officials reported the fire, which has been called the "Labor Day" fire, was completely contained. Other crews, including the Cheraw Volunteer Fire Department, Hasty-McClave Fire Protection District, Prowers Rural Fire Department, Wiley Rural Fire Protection District and DFPC Engine 34 had responded to help crews.

Officials say the crews are now in mop-up mode. No official cause of the fire has been released.
