Model jet crash starts small fire in field near Chatfield Reservoir

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Douglas County first responders were sent to a field earlier today after a model airplane went down in a field.

According to officials, South Metro Fire Rescue, along with West Metro Fire, responded to a fire that burned around half an acre near North Roxborough Park Road. Officials say no structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.

Officials later determined the fire was caused by an HSD Turbine F-18 gas-powered model jet that had gone down. Park rangers were able to respond to the initial fire with fire extinguishers, helping to slow the spread.
