WATCH: Bear attempts to enter Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jail

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A strange visitor attempted to make new friends in Douglas County earlier today when a bear tried to get into the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) jail.

DCSO says the bear wasn't able to get in, but tried his best to get through the entry gate of the jail.

DCSO is reminding people to stay aware as bears are starting to show up in more neighborhoods and residential places. This includes securing trash and removing any food that may attract the animals, keeping doors and garages closed and giving bears space.

Officials remind people to not approach bears if they see them.
