Driverless Waymo taxis now available for booking in Denver

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The well-known driverless car service Waymo is now available to book in Denver.

Waymo officially launched its first public rides today after having spent a little bit of time getting adjusted to the Denver roads, according to officials.

According to Waymo's Chief Marketing Officer, who is from Colorado, the company is focused on making transportation more accessible. They say they plan to slowly expand their presence across the city and connect to more destinations.

"This significant investment expands clean mobility choices for Coloradans," said Colorado Governor Jared Polis in a press release. "We are proud to support forward-thinking solutions that lead to economic growth and build a safer, cleaner transportation future across our state."

According to our Denver news partners, the driverless taxis will start serving 60 square miles of the city from roughly Cory-Merrill to North Washington and Villa Park to City Park. It will also go to places like Empower Field at Mile High, Coors Field and Ball Arena, according to 9News.

Our Denver news partners also report that Waymo says their cars are designed to handle Colorado winters and feature exterior hardware built to prevent snow and ice buildup. They've been testing the cars since September of 2025, 9News reports.

The cars also launched in San Diego, California and Tampa, Florida, marking 14 cities where people can now ride the driverless cars. 9News reports Denver riders can use the Waymo app to call rides, which will be on their newest version of car.
