Fatal two-car crash closes Marksheffel Road south of East Gate Street

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says two people have died after a crash on Marksheffel Road south of East Gate Street.

CSPD says Marksheffel Road was blocked in both directions south of Peterson Space Force Base East Gate due to a crash as of 2 p.m.

According to officials, CSPD received calls about a two-vehicle crash in the area around 1:40 p.m. on Monday. When officers and medical personnel arrived at the scene, officials noted two sedans were involved in the accident.

A preliminary investigation showed a Toyota sedan was travelling southbound on Marksheffel Road when it wasn't able to navigate a curve on the road and entered the northbound lane. That is when CSPD says it hit a Chevy sedan going northbound.

The two people inside the Chevy were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The two occupants in the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene.

CSPD says its Major Crash Team is responding and continues to investigate. They anticipate Marksheffel Road to be closed between East Gate and Drennan Road for several hours.
