Another deer impaled and killed on spiked fence, city officials and HOA looking for solutions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- This story contains images and details regarding dead animals. 

Another deer has been impaled and killed along a spiked fence near Garden of the Gods Road and North 30th Street.

Following prior reporting, several viewers have reached out to KRDO13 and officials concerned about a deer that was impaled and killed along a spiked fence near Garden of the Gods Road and North 30th Street.

The deer that was impaled and killed along the same fence line on Monday marks the second incident this month that KRDO13 has been made aware of.

District 1 City Councilman Dave Donelson said he's been contacted by his constituents, sharing KRDO13's previous report.

“I want to do something about it. I think it’s a problem. We love the wildlife here in Colorado Springs. We don’t want this to continue,” Donelson said.

Donelson said he's exploring whether different fencing standards could be possible in areas with high wildlife activity.

“I think there are solutions where the property owner still has security around their property, but it’s less hazardous to especially deer, the ones that like to jump over things,” Councilman Donelson said.

He’s also looking at solutions that could alter the fenceline without requiring it to be completely replaced.

RowCal, which acts as the property manager for the Kissing Camels neighborhood's homeowners' association, told KRDO13 they take this issue very seriously and are working with the HOA board to find potential solutions. 

KRDO13 is working to get in contact with the HOA board members to find out what steps they are taking to resolve this issue.

The City of Colorado Springs provided the following statement when asked about the fence's compliance with City Code:

"City Planning reviewed both current and previous City Code provisions and development plan for this property and found no specific fencing requirements or prohibitions."
