19-year-old crashes into auto sales shop after fleeing traffic stop in Pueblo
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A teenager was arrested after fleeing from police and crashing a car into a local business, according to officials.
On Monday, Aug. 24, around 12:30 a.m., Colorado State Patrol (CSP) responded to a single-vehicle crash after a vehicle fled a traffic stop made by the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) before crashing.
The 19-year-old driver, Jayvion Aragon, was arrested and booked at the Pueblo County Jail on several felony charges, including first-degree assault, reckless vehicular assault and reckless driving, according to CSP.
The vehicle crashed into the property of Ed Willits Auto Sales off Highway 96 in Pueblo, damaging five vehicles on the lot and taking out the front fence.
“Just absolutely looked like a bomb went off from the corner all the way through the property,” said Rick Willits, co-owner of Ed Willits Auto Sales.
PCSO said a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for not having registration. Aragon allegedly sped off from the deputy and lost control.
Exclusive video obtained by KRDO13 shows the moment the car went airborne and flipped. KRDO13 previously spoke with the auto shop in July when a rare, vintage car was stolen from Rick's father, Ed Willits.
Luckily, the vintage car has since been returned. However, now, the father and son are left dealing with another expensive challenge.
“I think in all business, you have to take the good with the bad," Rick said. "This is one of those times of having to deal with the bad. The car being stolen was just a very unfortunate incident that we had to deal with again.”
CSP said a 19-year-old male passenger sustained life-threatening injuries, but there is no update on his current condition. Aragon and an additional 19-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries, according to CSP.
KRDO13 asked CSP if Aragon would be held responsible for the property damage caused by the crash. CSP said this will be determined through the crash investigation.
