Applications open for next cohort of Colorado Springs police Chief’s Youth Advisory Council

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CPSD) is seeking its next round of students for their Chief's Youth Advisory Council.

According to CSPD, the group will allow students to discuss their ideas and thoughts about the city and public safety directly with CSPD Chief of Police Adrian Vasquez. Officials say it will have hands-on learning and discussions with various parts of CSPD throughout the council's tenure.

The meetings will run one a month for two hours from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. CSPD says the chief will ask students their direct opinions and be able to answer their questions.

The application is now available on CPSD's website for high school-aged youth currently enrolled in public school, charter school, online school, alternative school, home school or a private education program. Students under 18 have to have a parent or guardian's permission.

Applications are open until Monday, Aug. 31, and those chosen will know by Friday, Sept. 4.
