Two arrested in connection with 30+ shots fired in Pueblo County
PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) says they have arrested two men after more than 30 shots were fired in the St. Charles Mesa area earlier this month.
According to officials, 22-year-old Isaiah Trujillo-Martinez and 25-year-old Oscar DeHerrera were arrested after an investigation into the incident that happened on Aug. 14.
PCSO says deputies responded to a call in the 1700 block of Santa Fe Drive around 2:35 a.m. on Aug. 14 after they got reports of multiple shots fired near Aspen Road and South Road. They also received similar reports of shots fired near South Road and 25th Lane, which officials say were related.
PCSO says they found 25 spent shell casings in the area.
After reviewing security camera footage, officials say they identified two vehicles involved, including a truck which PCSO says they saw in the area of a convenience store later on that night. PCSO says the deputy approached the truck and asked the occupants, including a 15-year-old, to get out of the car.
According to officials, the occupants got out and were put into custody for further questioning. The other car involved in the incident was later seen in the area, but fled and has not been found, PCSO says.
While deputies were investigating, they found two guns inside the truck in plain view and learned the occupants in the two cars had fired several shots outside the window of their cars. The truck was seized and later searched, where the two guns were found. PCSO says it also found 9 spent shell casings in the car, and one gun had an extended magazine.
Trujillo-Martinez and DeHerrera were arrested and booked into the Pueblo County Jail.
Trujillo-Martinez was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, possessing a danger weapon, child abuse, prohibited use of a firearm, large capacity magazine and reckless endangerment. DeHerrera was charged with complicity, child abuse, illegal discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
PCSO says the minor was not arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
