RTD train offloaded after collision with police vehicle in Adams County

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Thornton Police Department patrol vehicle was hit by an RTD train earlier today while investigating a shooting.

According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Friday. The Thorton police officer had his lights activated and had just arrived near the train tracks on East 100th Avenue near Colorado Boulevard.

Officials say the officer was assisting with the perimeter of a shooting that took place earlier that morning when the train hit the car. The patrol vehicle was not occupied at the time.

According to CSP, the train had minor damage, and all the passengers were taken off and put onto RTD buses. CSP reports that Colorado Boulevard was blocked at East 100th Avenue after the crash.

CSP says there were no fatalities, or any injuries as a result of the crash.
