ZZ Top drummer dies, Colorado Springs tour date cancelled

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- ZZ Top has cancelled its upcoming show in Colorado Springs after the death of its longtime drummer, Frank Beard. He was 77.

ABC News reports Beard was in hospice care at his ranch in Richmond, Texas when he passed away, according to the band's publicist. Beard had previously taken a break from the band in March of 2025 to attend to a health issue, ABC News says.

The band was set to perform at Pikes Peak Center on Wednesday. The band hasn't confirmed if the dates will be rescheduled. AEG Presents Rocky Mountains says refunds are available where concertgoers bought their tickets.

According to the band's X account, the band cancelled its stops in Salt Lake City and Colorado Springs. The band will be back on tour at Austin City Limits.

“Today, Elwood and I lost a great friend and collaborator, and the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers and a great and true son of Texas. His signature backbeat was key to keeping ZZ on top," Billy Gibbons said on ZZ Top's X account.

Beard was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 with the band. He was with them for their entire six decade career, ABC News says.
