Running water restored to homes in Beulah’s Pine Drive Water District

BEULAH, Colo. (KRDO) -- Running water is finally being restored in Beulah's Pine Drive Water District following the "Aspen Acres" fire.

Residents in the Pine Drive Water District have been under a bottled water notice for over a month, and flash flooding after the fire dragged tons of ash into the water district's distribution system.

This delayed the sanitation and water testing processes required to restore service, but Beulah residents are finally getting some relief. Operators will be going door to door over the next few days to restore water service.

A homeowner must be present for the water services to be restored. If a homeowner can't be home, an appointment will need to be scheduled.

The Pine Drive Water District and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) assure that tap water is now safe to drink.

However, CDPHE recommends flushing your pipes first.

Residents can do this by running taps with cold water for five minutes, followed by hot water for an additional five minutes. Any water discoloration should resolve after flushing the cold and hot taps. CDPHE says to contact the Pine Drive Water District if the discoloration continues.

Service for homes and buildings damaged by the fire will remain suspended due to contamination risks. Water lines that burned or melted will need to be replaced before service can be restored.

Charissa Fryberger, the interim district manager for Pine Drive Water District, told KRDO13 she wants to remind people that Beulah is still under stage 3 water restrictions.

Under that restriction, water use should be limited to essential indoor use only.
