Colorado Department of Corrections officer charged with multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a child

TRINIDAD, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) officer on nine felony counts.

CBI says 37-year-old Gage Vidal Montoya was arrested Thursday after a nearly year-long investigation with the Internet Crimes Against Children unit. Montoya, who is employed as a corrections officer, is from Trinidad, according to officials.

CBI says the CDOC's Office of the Inspector General assisted in the investigation. Montoya is now on administrative leave.

Montoya was charged with six total counts of sexual exploitation of a child. Four of those charges were felony fives, and two were felony fours, according to CBI. He was also charged with three counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.

Officials say there is no evidence Montoya engaged in the alleged criminal activity while at work.
