Mandatory evacuations lifted near Bradley Road and Goldfield Drive for fire

UPDATE: The El Paso County Sheriff's Office lifted the evacuations at 3:30 p.m. Officials say the fire was around 40 acres in size, and no homes were damaged.

Several calls that came in to EPSO reported the fire was started by lightning, but the official cause has not yet been determined.

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- An evacuation order has been issued near Bradley Road and Goldfield Drive due to a fire near the 6200 block of Passing Sky Drive, according to city officials.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) says road closures include Bradley/Grinnell Boulevard and Bradley/Goldfield Drive. EPSO is asking those in the area to leave immediately.

EPSO says students who live in the area using the Widefield District 3 bus transportation system were being returned to their schools and would wait for parental pickup.

Officials say Security Fire is the lead agency, and EPSO deputies are assisting.

According to the city of Fountain, Fountain firefighters are assisting with the fire. It is burning near the area of Bradley and Goldfield, north of the Fountain Valley School.

KRDO13 spoke with Nicole Fields, who rushed home from work after one of her coworkers drove past the fire and alerted her that it was near her home. She says she wanted to make sure her home and pets were safe.

“We have a pretty wide range of open space around here, so it’s pretty easy for things to spread. It made me pretty nervous that it could get pretty close to the houses,” Fields said.
