The Heat Continues with Relief in Sight

Good evening southern Colorado!

It was an absolute scorcher here in southern Colorado today. We saw temperatures today soar into the 90s with more heat, and hazy conditions on the way. Our record high temperature for today here in Colorado Springs was 97°. For those of you in Pueblo your record high for today was 104°. We ended up tying our record high here in Colorado Springs but were just short of a record in Pueblo.

As we head into the evening hours plan on temperatures to pull back into the mid 60s for overnight lows with partly cloudy conditions along with a slight chance of seeing a stray shower or two.

Plan on another hot day for tomorrow with high temperatures very similar to what we're seeing today. We'll see partly cloudy skies during the morning hours with a few more clouds moving in as we head into the afternoon hours. As with today, we may see a couple showers and thunderstorms across the region but not everyone will see the rain.

**A HEAT ADVISORY will be in effect from noon tomorrow until 8:00 PM for portions of the KRDO viewing area, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, La Junta, and Canon City.**

As for that relief, temperatures are expecting to dip back down into the lower 90s and upper 80s on Monday with a gradual drop in high temperatures as we head throughout the work week. With those cooler temperatures will come increased chances for rain.

As a matter of fact, the upcoming week looks to be rather active with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected throughout the week. While that is great news for our drought conditions, what's not so good is the possibility of flash flooding if those storms dump copious amounts of rain in a short period of time. Stay tuned to KRDO as we head throughout the workweek for any updates regarding severe weather, including flash flooding.

By next weekend we'll see temperatures much closer to average for this time of the year with those rain chances sticking around.
