Motorcyclist killed in DUI crash at Highway 83 and Shoup Road

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is releasing information after a DUI crash that killed a motorcyclist in Colorado Springs last week.

According to CSP, troopers responded to the intersection of Highway 83 and Shoup Road on July 30 around 9:25 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash. Officials say when troopers got on scene, they found a Subaru WRX and Harley-Davidson were involved in the accident.

The Harley-Davidson had two riders, a 27-year-old man and 28-year-old female, both from Denver. The Subaru was driven by 38-year-old Evan Fields from Fountain.

According to officials, a preliminary investigation revealed the Subaru was going southbound on Highway 83 and trying to turn left onto Shoup Road when it turned into the Harley-Davidson that was going northbound. Fields' car collided with the motorcycle and ejected both riders.

CSP says the 28-year-old female was pronounced dead on the scene, and the 27-year-old driver of the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Fields had no injuries and was arrested for DUI and additional charges before being transported to the El Paso County Jail.
