Mountain Metropolitan Transit opens new downtown customer service center

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) has opened a new customer service center in its downtown terminal.

MMT says the new terminal will help expand rider support and improve access to information, passes and seating assistance. Customer service used to be at the downtown terminal, but closed in 2008 and later reopened in the Administration Office of Transit.

Now, officials say high demand is moving it back downtown.

"This is the heart of the city," Elaine Sheridan, spokesperson for Mount Metropolitan Transit, said. "It's the heart of our transit service, and it makes it so easy for people to buy tickets, get information, and just get everything they need to ride our buses where the buses go."

Officials say that many of the MMT bus routes pass through downtown, making it easy for customers to visit the service center if they need assistance. They also say they have upgraded security and installed sensors at the stop to enhance safety.

"We've been open for about a month here and we have now seen ten times the number of people coming to this customer service compared to the customer service that we had at the Administration Office of Transit," Sheridan said.

Sheridan says it is also making it easier on surrounding businesses because customers can now go to the customer service center when they need assistance. The center will also be a way for customers to get tickets in person instead of having to use the online system.

The location is at the downtown corridor, and is located at the corner of Kiowa and Nevada.
