Drowning victim recovered from Eleven Mile Reservoir, CPW says

LAKE GEORGE, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) says it recovered the body of a man who drowned Thursday afternoon in Eleven Mile Reservoir.

Officials say CPW responded to a kayaker who flipped into the water during high winds around 3:30 p.m. Officers were able to pull the man out of the water and attempted CPR for over an hour.

The Hartsel Fire Department, South Park Ambulance and Flight for Life also responded to the scene, according to CPW. The man was declared dead around 4:30 p.m.

CPW says the man was wearing a life jacket, but it did not fit properly and covered his face after he fell into the water.

Now, they are issuing a warning to wear Coast Guard-approved life jackets that are buckled or zipped and fit tightly around the abdomen.
