Colorado to relaunch e-bike rebate program at end of the month

STATEWIDE, Colo. (KRDO) -- Gov. Jared Polis announced the relaunching of the e-bikes rebate program later this month.

According to officials, the Colorado Energy Office (CEO) will relaunch the program that was used from the summer of 2023 to the spring of 2025. During its initial run, the program helped close to 8,000 residents save more than $9.75 million on buying e-bikes, the governor's office says.

CEO says it has $3 million in funding from the Community Access Enterprise to help with point-of-sale rebates for qualifying e-bike purchases for around 2,800 residents over the next year. According to officials, the funding creates an ongoing funding stream for future rebates.

According to the governor's office, more than 34,000 Coloradans applied for rebates in the program's first run, and of those, almost 90% said they wouldn't have bought an e-bike without the program.

Rebates are available to people living in Colorado with a household income at or below 80% of the area median income in their local county, according to the governor's office. A list of the area median incomes by county is available here. Officials say the rebates will be $1,000 with extra rebates available for e-cargo bikes and adaptive e-bike purchases.

Registration will be open on a quarterly basis for one week at a time, according to officials. The first round opens Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. and closes Aug. 31 at 12 p.m.

The registration portal is available on the e-bike rebate webpage starting on Aug. 24. To qualify for the rebate, residents must buy the e-bike from a qualifying retailer. A full list is available here.
