Body of missing man recovered following pontoon boat accident at lake in Las Animas County

WESTON, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) confirmed it recovered the body of a missing man after a search at a lake in Las Animas County.

CPW says officers with the Marine Evidence Recovery Team found the victim after a single boat incident where three other family members were taken to a local hospital in Trinidad. The accident happened at the privately-owned Monument Lake Resort.

Officers were alerted around 10:15 a.m. on Monday Aug. 3 of an accident involving a pontoon boat. Officers were dispatched from the closest area, Trinidad Lake State Park, and worked with the Las Animas County Sheriff's Office in the search, according to CPW.

Officials say they searched for several hours before recovering the body around 5:15 p.m. CPW says its Marine Evidence Recovery Team used advanced sonar technology and an underwater remote-operated vehicle in the search.

The cause of death is now under investigation by the Las Animas County coroner. CPW says an investigation is now underway.
