Victor Marx faces allegations of accepting more than $78,000 in improper campaign donations

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office is accusing gubernatorial candidate Victor Marx and his campaign committee of accepting more than $78,000 in contributions that exceeded state campaign finance limits.

According to a complaint filed with the Secretary of State’s Office, Marx’s campaign accepted at least 197 contributions from 111 people that went over the $1,450 limit for contributions from an individual. The complaint says those contributions totaled $78,613.15 in excess funds.

The state also alleges the campaign accepted at least 10 cash contributions that exceeded the $100 limit for cash donations. Those contributions totaled $1,045 in excess funds.

The complaint says the alleged violations were identified through campaign finance reports filed by Marx’s campaign leading up to the June 30 primary election.

The complaint was filed against Marx, who is running for governor, and his campaign committee, Victor Marx for Governor. The case will proceed through the Secretary of State’s administrative hearing process.
