Local 5K, 10K race in Beulah back on, raising money for “Aspen Acres” recovery efforts

BEULAH, Colo. (KRDO) -- A local race in Beulah is back on and raising money for those impacted by the "Aspen Acres" fire.

Registration for the Beulah Challenge was temporarily paused when the "Aspen Acres" fire first broke out due to concerns about potentially having to cancel the race, organizers say. But now the race will continue in September in a slightly different way. Organizers have decided to cancel the half-marathon due to safety concerns, but will continue with the 5K and 10K races.

The challenge has been around since 1996 and helps raise money for the Beulah Educational Support Team (BEST) program at the Beulah School for Natural Sciences. Organizers say the money helps fund programs that focus on outdoor learning and science education.

This year, organizers say a portion of the proceeds of the race will go to supporting recovery and restoration projects within Beulah.

The race will take place Sept. 19 with the 10K starting at 9 a.m. and the 5K starting shortly after. Registration is open and available on the challenge's website.
