Over 100 traffic stops made in multi-agency traffic safety surge in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department worked with the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office on a traffic safety surge this week that ended in 132 traffic stops.

According to CSP, the departments came together as part of a conference for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators taking place in Colorado Springs this week. The stops were meant to stop unsafe driving habits and promote traffic safety, according to officials.

Attendees of the conference were part of patrols involving 24 police and patrol cruisers, as well as a CSP aircraft. Officials say 132 traffic stops were made between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Of the over 100 stops, two ended in DUI/DUID arrests. Five other arrests were made after traffic stops. 31 of the traffic stops were for speeding, and over 20 were for either no proof of valid registration or no proof of a valid driver's license.

CSP says during the time of the traffic safety surge, there were no crashes in the operation area.
