CSFD responding to grass fire near Explorer Elementary School

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is responding to a grass fire behind Explorer Elementary School.

Officials say the fire is in the area of Austin Bluffs and Brainard Drive right behind the school. CSFD says multiple crews are on scene, and smoke is visible in the area.

CSFD says the active flames were dying down and firefighters were starting to gain containment as of 6:20 p.m.

CSFD asks residents not to stop on Austin Bluffs unless advised to by Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers to allow traffic to continue moving.

CSPD says the cause of the fire remained under investigation, but initial reports indicated fireworks may have been involved.
