PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo Police Department (PPD) confirms that one person has died after a crash on I-25 northbound, just south of the 13th Street off-ramp around 9:25 p.m. on July 17.

According to PPD, before the crash, they had recieved several calls of a wrong-way driver on Highway 50 Bypass driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of travel. When officers responded to the crash, police say they found a black Nissan Altima had hit a blue Ford SUV head-on.

PPD says the Nissan matched the description of the wrong-way driver.

The suspected wrong-way driver died on the scene of the crash, and the driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver who died on the scene of the crash has been identified by the Pueblo County Coroner as 67-year-old John P. Morrone.

The crash was the 12th fatal traffic crash in Pueblo in 2026, according to officials.
