Pikes Peak Rangerettes prepare for Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- It's time to saddle up as a Colorado tradition returns with the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo!

Gates open Tuesday, July 14, with competitions and performances, including bull riding and barrel racing, all day.

KRDO13 met up with the famous Pikes Peak Rangerettes drill team ahead of their opening debut. Newcomers are in for a treat as the group will help open the show, and put on their own performance during halftime.

Even the horses seem excited to get started.

"It's a high-speed equestrian drill team. So, it's about 16 or 20 horses, and we all work together to create maneuvers," Skilly Deloach, one of the Rangerettes said. "It's almost like synchronized swimming, except on horseback."

The rodeo isn't just a good time -- it's also a fundraiser for the Pikes Peak or Bust Foundation. They help local military families with quality-of-life initiatives.

The rodeo runs through July 18, and tickets are available on the rodeo's website.

KRDO13 will be live all day at the rodeo on Tuesday to celebrate opening day.
