New pecan shelling and distribution site coming to Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A pecan shelling and distribution facility has chosen Colorado Springs as its new home.

The Colorado Springs Chamber and Economic Development Corporation (EDC) says the plant will bring around 50 new jobs with an average annual wage of $76,000. Around $50 million in capital investment is going to be brought into Colorado Springs, officials say.

The facility will begin construction next year, with groundbreaking planned for August of 2027, according to the city. The shelling facility will be located at Peak Innovation Park on the southeast side of the city.

The company also looked at locations in Texas and New Mexico before deciding on Colorado Springs, according to officials.

The city says it is offering the company an incentive package, which includes the Rapid Response Program. The program helps expedite the reviewing and approval of land use applications, as well as helping companies get a faster response to building permits. It will also offer workforce support through the city's EDC.

According to officials, El Paso County and the Pikes Peak administrator for the Colorado Enterprise Zone program estimate the new project, labeled "Project Tree," will be eligible for over $610,000 in performance-based tax credits and exemptions through the Enterprise Zone program.
