Results continue to roll in from Colorado’s 2026 state primary, setting the stage for November

KRDO

STATEWIDE, Colo. (KRDO) -- Preliminary results are in for the 2026 state primary across Colorado, with a major race remaining too close to call.

Current Attorney General Phil Weiser defeated U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet in the race for the Democratic ticket for governor. As of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Weiser had received just over 460,000 votes. Weiser has served as Attorney General since 2018.

The Republican ticket is still undecided, as the race between Barb Kirkmeyer, Victor Marx and Scott Bottoms remains too close to call. Kirkmeyer and Marx both hold 40% of the vote, with Kirkmeyer ahead as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 1.

Not all the votes have been counted yet. If the race remains too close to call, the votes will be recounted. If no winner can be decided after that, a runoff of the top two candidates will take place, according to officials.

As for the state Attorney General, Democrat Jena Griswold will face off against Republican Michael Allen in November's general election.

John Hickenlooper will move forward to the November general election for a U.S. Senate seat to represent Colorado after besting Julie Gonzales.

The race for the Democratic nomination for U.S. House of Representatives District 5 in El Paso County was the only contested primary race in the county for federal representation. Jessica Killin defeated Joe Reagan with 62% of the vote.

In Pueblo County, the House seat for District 3 was contested on both the Republican and Democratic side. Democrat Dwayne Romero will face Republican Jeff Hurd after both beat their opponents with over 60% of the votes.

Locally in El Paso County, Sheriff Joe Roybal will be running for reelection against Mateo Montoya-Collis in November. Current Pueblo County Sheriff David Lucero was defeated by challenger Allen Medina Tuesday night in his bid for reelection to the Sheriff's Office.

All of these results remain preliminary, and must be certified before made official.
